Integrity

Integrity can be described as a series of principles that we hold ourselves accountable for. "Think - Say - Do" is the model in which integrity is generally perceived. If we do what we say, and say what we think, we can be considered a person of integrity.

So as you can see, by definition, one can be considered to have integrity but not necessarily be a Christian. Biblical Integrity is based upon the principles given to us from the gospels. Integrity in this sense can be seen throughout the entire bible.

'Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is looking"

“Honesty is telling others the truth, integrity is telling myself the truth”

I think of Joseph and Potiphar's wife. That was some integrity, Jospeh running out of the room when some hot, revved-up woman was throwing herself at him. She had already been coming on to him for quite some time, and he had told her "no" before. Then she basically attacks him and he has to leave his cloak in her hands, he's in such a hurty to flee the situation. He said he could not bear to do a wicked thing against his master, or sin against his God.
So instead of acting on his own desires or justifying a wrong situation, Joseph clearly chose the right thing to do...he said no and then stood by his word.

That's a great example of personal integrity, Carrie. Personal integrity leads into corporate integrity, and Christians have been having a problems with that from the very start.

There's a picture of Justin holding a sign that says, "Sorry we Christians have been such jerks. We're trying to fix that."

A biblical reference for me is Job. I mean come on, how much more could that guy endure!?!?!

So many people would have made excuses or tried their best to justify sin in that situation. Yet he didn't waiver an inch.

I love Paul because you can hear him fighting for integrity in his letters. He had to prove his devotion to Christ to everyone. Plus, he was open about his stuggle and failures. It's such a relief to read that he did things he knew were wrong, too.

I think Shon's sermon today was a great insight on integrity. Temptation is the mongoose to our integrity snake or is it our snake to our mongoose? either way its bad.

We find ourselves compromising our integrity only during times of temptation. Temptation is only defeated by prayer and faith. So our integrity is built upon the same foundation.

Prayer and faith. A lot of what we talked about last week can apply to this week. We are broken people in a broken world, but God is transforming us into what He destined us to be.
I read somewhere that "integrity" and "integer" come from the same root word meaning "whole, complete."
It's more than just self-discipline. It's keeping myself in check AND actively caring for others.
And to be honest, I can give two specific examples of how I failed in my integrity YESTERDAY.
